What Makes My Headshot Sessions Different
Most people dread getting their headshot taken. Not because of the camera, exactly. Because of everything they don't know walking in. What should I wear? What if I pick the wrong outfit? Will I look stiff? What happens after?
I have been photographing people since 2009, and I have watched that uncertainty walk through my door the whole time. So I built something to end it. Every client who books with me gets a personal client portal, and I am fairly confident no other photographer around has anything like it. Today I want to show you exactly what my clients see, because the difference between a nerve-wracking headshot session and a genuinely enjoyable one starts weeks before anyone picks up a camera.
Your session starts the day you book
Most photographers have you book a session, send a confirmation, and maybe a reminder the day before. The prep ends there. You are on your own until you walk through the door.
With me, the moment you are on my calendar, you get your own private portal. Not a form. Not a PDF of tips. A living space that knows who you are, counts down to your session, and walks you through exactly how to prepare.
That is the first thing you see. Your name, my face, and one promise. This is your space to share inspiration, outfits, and ideas before we ever meet.
You prepare. I prepare too.
Inside, your portal lays out your whole journey, from prep to gallery to the referral program, with a countdown to your date and a simple checklist for getting ready.
Preparation goes both ways. That checklist is getting you ready for your session, and at the same time it is quietly briefing me.
Tell me a little about yourself (My Profile) and I can plan looks and lighting before you arrive. Choose what you actually need (Shot Planning), a LinkedIn portrait, a company website photo, an acting headshot, and we build the session around the end use instead of guessing. Drop questions and must-haves anywhere (Session Notes and Ideas). And pin photos you love (Vision Board) so I can see the style you are drawn to instead of trying to read your mind at 9 AM on session day.
The more you share, the more your session is already tailored to you before you walk in. No detail is too small.
The wardrobe review, my favorite part
This is the feature clients tell their friends about. Snap photos of the outfits you are considering, upload them, and I personally review each one.
Every item gets a straight answer, yes, no, or maybe, with a note about why. That navy top photographs beautifully. That pattern will fight with the backdrop. Bring the blazer as a second look. There is even an outfit builder for putting combinations together.
So instead of standing in front of your closet the night before wondering what photographs well, you already know. You packed the right things a week ago, because your photographer told you exactly which ones they were.
On session day, you just show up
By the time you arrive, the guesswork is gone. You know your outfits work. I know your goals, your style, and your shot list. Which means your session time goes into the thing that actually matters, coaching you into expressions that look like you on your best day, with your images on a big screen in real time so you can see we got the shot before you leave.
And afterward, everything in one place
Your portal stays with you after the session. Your gallery lives there, proofs to review and favorites to select when your package includes them, finished images to download in every crop you need, the LinkedIn square, the vertical, the full portrait, ready for wherever your face is about to show up. And when someone compliments the new headshot, your referral code is right there too, earning you credits toward your next session.
One client recently put it better than I could. "I would recommend kdalton photography to anyone looking to refine their online presence." That is the whole point. The photos are the product, but the experience is the difference.
See it for yourself
If you have been putting off a new headshot because the process felt like a black box, this is your sign. Book a professional session or an actor session, and your portal will be waiting for you the same day. Curious about investment first? Everything is on the pricing page, no email gate, no phone call required.
Come see why my clients say this was the easiest photo session they have ever had.
"I've never liked having my photo taken. For some reason, I'd always get anxious—blinking at the wrong time, smiling weirdly, doing all the awkward things you can imagine. But Kim was amazing! She instantly made me feel at ease. I laughed so much during the session, and somehow, we got the perfect shot. If you're working with her, trust the process: read everything she sends you, watch the videos, and practice a little. It really pays off!"
